FIRST TRUE SHOTS!!!!!!!!!!!

* Mexican War
    * Really started tensions between North and South after Missouri Compromise
        * Separation between North and South
        * Blood shed to acquire land and North not happy over acquisition of new southern land
* Bleeding Kansas
     * Increased tensions between North and South as to whether or not Kansas should be free or slave state
     * Were some deaths and blood was shed - Pottawomie War
* Lincoln-Douglas Debates
     * Not literary a "shot" but helped Lincoln win presidency and south secede
     * One of first battle fields
* "Uncle's Tom Cabin"
    * Much anger in the South and there were a few violent clashes
    * Lincon says when meets Stowe, "So you are the one who started the war"
* John Brown's Raid and Harper's Ferry
     * John Brown killed few pro-slavery men and tried to evoke slaves to revolt
     * Some northern men congradulate him
         * South angry about this
